The 2014 Ruleset

You are allowed to use any and all of the published 5th Edition DnD content to make your character, but if there is an updated version of something you’d like to use in the 2024 version, please use that and not the 2014 rules.

Leveling Up

Since players can use the same character from one session to the next, it stands to reason that they would still level-up. I made a system to show how fast that occurs for each character level. I find this to be a happy medium between how slow leveling can be in a standard campaign and how fast it feels if you level up every single session.

  • Levels 1-4: 1 session to level up.

  • Levels 5-8: 2 sessions to level up.

  • Levels 9-12: 3 sessions to level up.

  • Levels 13-16: 4 sessions to level up.

  • Levels 17-19: 5 sessions to level up.

2 Session Levels, 2 Character Groups

I will be running 2 different levels of sessions to cater to different players’ skill levels.

Low Level Sessions

  • Low Level sessions are for DnD beginners, or people who just want to try it once, dip their toes in the water, etc.

  • These sessions will be low pressure and will focus on learning.

  • Players for this group will make level one characters.

  • I will have some pre-made character options for people who don’t want to make their own.

  • For simplicity, gear and items will be standardised

  • If your character reaches level three, you will pick from one of the subclasses in the 2024 ruleset.

Line Jack Sessions

  • Line Jack sessions are for those who have played DnD before and are ready to dive in and get their hands dirty.

  • While there will be some roleplay and dialogue, I will try to keep the group on a tight track so that we can reach each adventure’s finale by the end of that day’s session.

  • Players for this group will be starting with level five characters.

  • If you are building a new character and choose a subclass from the 2024 ruleset, then you don’t need my approval for your character build, but I’m happy to help if you still need it.

  • If you are using a pre-existing character or building a character that has a subclass from the 2014 ruleset, you will need my approval before using that character. We can tweak it to fit the setting if needed.

  • Your character will start with standard gear provided by your build as well as 650 gold, 1 common item, and 1 uncommon item.

  • I am happy to provide recommendations for magic item choices and gear purchases (there is a well stocked store in Arnrock that has every standard item).

Boundaries & Consent

Before you play a session I’ll need you to fill these out. If you don't select an option for a topic, I'm going to assume your answer is Strongly Agree / Enthusiastic Consent. If you submit all blank answers I will assume that you’re good with anything and everything.

  • Agree / Strongly Agree means: Enthusiastic consent; bring it on!

  • Neutral means: Okay if veiled or offstage; might be okay onstage but requires discussion ahead of time; uncertain.

  • Strongly Disagree / Disagree means: Hard line; do not include.
