Welcome, Line Jack…
I am Professor Nora Sotherby, owner and operator of The Arnaden Company of Line Jacks & Tourism... or maybe I'll just shorten that to tArCoLJaT. Hard to say, as my expertise is not in names, but rather, arcane science and innovation!
You find yourself on the shores of The Arnaden, otherwise know as the Lake of Steam, so named for its boiling springs that spew water vapor and noxious gas.
At the center of this geothermic activity is the Arnrock, a massive volcano. The island that grew around it is where I call home. On one corner of the island is group of narrow rocky peaks called the Fountains, which, (ahem), are not actually true mountains but rather eroded volcanic necks made from arcane-conductive metallurgic stone! But I digress; besides appearing like glittering jets of water in sunlight, these towers also seep a unique hot spring water.
The Fountains and their water have a peculiar effect on time, which I exploit using my Oscillator to send objects and people to other timelines. I’ll spare you the technical details, but you are welcome to look at my schematics and notes at your leisure, if you are the inquisitive type.
But those timeline jumps, that's where you come in. You see, there are people that want to travel to our timeline for various reasons. We call them Line Tourists. They travel here while someone else travels to their timeline in a swap.
I keep a staff of daring adventurers on standby who can jump out on scheduled times to do these swaps: My Line Jacks. While they are over there, they can do jobs for clients, explore, take diligent notes for my research, and lastly travel back at the agreed upon appointment
While Jacks are back here on our timeline I keep them fed, rested, and prepped; There are bunks, a kitchen, a weapons and armor benches, training ring, arcane component locker and the like. If you have specific needs, we can negotiate after you’ve proven yourself on at least one jump.
